Ask, seek, know

Modern Savage

We do not hide the faith in what we do, and we are not going to start now. This is Bear's shape for a morning prayer, and it is three words long so that it can be remembered at six in the morning with a child on one hip.

Ask. Ask forgiveness for yesterday, whatever it was. The short temper, the thing you said, the thing you did not do. Say it plainly and put it down.

Seek. Seek His help for the specific day in front of you. The meeting, the conversation you have been avoiding, the patience you know will run out by four o'clock.

Know. Know who is King. Whatever the day does, it is not the final word.

It takes about a minute, and it fits into the five quiet minutes before the house wakes up.

If faith is not your thing, take the shape and leave the theology. Owning yesterday, asking for what you need today, and remembering you are not in charge of everything is a good way to start a morning, whoever you think is listening.
