Where your phone sleeps
Modern Savage
There is a question that tells you almost everything about a person's evenings. Where does your phone charge at night.
If the answer is the bedside table, then the last thing you see before sleep and the first thing you see on waking is a screen, and everyone in the house knows it. Most of us are in this category. Most of us have also caught ourselves looking at the phone while a child was halfway through telling us something, felt the small shame of it, and done it again the next night.
We are not going to lecture anyone about screen time. This is a nutrition company and we look at our phones too much. Where the phone lives decides who gets your attention, and that one physical change does more than any amount of willpower.
Charge it in the kitchen. Buy a cheap alarm clock, the kind with hands. Put the phone down at nine and pick it up after the first hour of the morning is done, in daylight, once the day has already started for you. Winning the first hour is mostly about where the phone is when you wake up.
