Field note 10 of 74 IN THE KITCHEN
Thirty grams of fibre a day
Most UK adults eat about 20g. Four swaps from the NHS that close the gap at the shops.
Modern Savage

The UK government recommends 30g of fibre a day. The NHS says most adults eat about 20g. Ten grams a day doesn't sound like much, until you try to find it in a normal week of food.
Fibre is the part of plant food we can't digest ourselves.
The easiest ten grams are in your shopping basket, and the swaps are small.
Try this: close the gap this week
Swap a sugary cereal for porridge or plain wholewheat biscuits.
Keep the skins on potatoes: baked, or boiled new potatoes.
Tip a tin of beans, lentils or chickpeas into a stew, curry or salad.
Snack on fresh fruit, oatcakes, or unsalted nuts and seeds.
Inulin from agave, the same plant as tequila, and dried baobab fruit are both in every scoop of Modern Savage, with a live culture beside them.
