Field notes

We said most supplements are expensive urine

Modern Savage

We have said in print that most supplements are expensive urine, and that the only three worth the name are salt, creatine and olive oil. We wrote that, and we still think it.

So you would be right to ask how the same family ended up making a performance stack.

The sentence was about the industry, and the industry deserves it. Most tubs are a filler, a flavour and a hopeful dose of something the body did not need more of. Creatine is the exception we named because it is the most studied supplement there is and the evidence behind it is not in dispute. It is the first thing in the Summit Stack, at a proper dose.

Everything else in it got in the same way, one ingredient at a time, by clearing a bar we set deliberately high. Real electrolytes drawn from seawater rather than a flavoured sachet. A handful of molecules from the research world that Bear wanted in his own stack and that passed the reading.

We believe in every one of them, and over the next few notes we will tell you why, ingredient by ingredient. If we cannot explain why a thing is in there, it should not be in a pouch with our name on it. The "expensive urine" line, and the rest of how we live, is in the handbook, which is free.
