Field note 27 of 74 FIRST LIGHT
A morning without the third cup
Light, water and a short walk, before the kettle goes on.
Modern Savage

Plenty of days run on the same pattern: one coffee to get up, another to get going, and a third in the afternoon to get through. There's nothing wrong with coffee. It's the third cup that's worth a second look.
Coffee is a pleasure. The third cup is usually a habit, and habits are easy to test. So this week, try building one morning on other things first. None of them needs a kettle.
Try this: one morning before the coffee
Open the curtains as soon as you're up, or better, step outside for five minutes, whatever the weather.
Drink a full glass of water before the kettle goes on.
Walk for ten minutes before you sit down at a screen: round the block, or to the end of the lane and back.
Eat a breakfast with some protein in it: eggs, yoghurt or last night's leftovers.
Keep the coffee if you love it. Just have it once the walk is done, and try a few days without the afternoon cup.
Breakfast is also when our daily blend goes in: one scoop of Modern Savage, stirred into milk or a smoothie.
